The Vocational Counsellor’s primary role is to ensure effective learning and appropriate vocational pathways are established for students through the conduct of vocational counselling sessions and the development of individual learning plans. The individual interviews establish and cover careers goals and pathways and the links between these goals and prison industry work and education. These plans are reviewed after a period of time. The Vocational Counselling Officer is required to use data storage systems and be capable of uploading learning plans, retrieving plans, reviewing plans as required.

The Vocational Counselling Officer is a member of the Contracted Delivery Team in the Box Hill Institute’s Educational Delivery Division. This position reports to the Site Manager and is responsible for liaising with the students, relevant industry groups, Corrections Victoria representatives, community services providers and employees of the BHI Group at all levels.

The Corrections Victoria Project as part of the Contracted Delivery team provides accredited Education/Industry based programs in a number of Victorian Prisons. The project is also responsible for the provision of vocational counselling sessions for individual prisoners.
